When you have surgery, you may be prescribed celecoxib. Celecoxib may cause damage to the lining of the stomach. Celecoxib can cause stomach bleeding if taken during the first few days of taking the medication. Celecoxib should not be used if you have had a stomach ulcer or other stomach problems, had a heart attack, or if you are pregnant.
If you are taking celecoxib for pain, you should be aware that it may take several months for the medication to start working. It may take several months for celecoxib to be fully absorbed into your body. Celecoxib may also cause nausea and vomiting, which can affect the blood levels of other medications taken during this period.
It is important to note that taking celecoxib in combination with another NSAID such as ibuprofen can increase the risk of stomach bleeding. If you are taking celecoxib and your doctor decides to stop using celecoxib, your risk of stomach bleeding increases.
